A Review of Courtballistec and Barricade Tennis Shoes

October 2, 2011 GuestPoster Sports & Outdoors

After testing out a few of the newer tennis shoe models out on the market, I’ve come up with a couple of favorites.  The big name players like Adidas and Nike are producing plenty of different kinds of shoes, but some of them really don’t deliver.  I’ll go over one shoe from each of these companies that are currently the most popular and probably at the top of most tennis consumer lists.

The Adidas Barricade 6.0

Barricade tennis shoes have always been the benchmark for durability in a tennis shoe.  It comes as no surprise that these shoes didn’t let me down in that category.  After months of play on gritty hard courts there still isn’t any sign that these shoes are going to give out.  The out sole and tread is still alive and kicking, while providing great traction and support on the court.  The main problem with this shoe is the weight.  I know Adidas has been working to trim down the weight of their models, but this shoe is still a bit on the heavy side.  These shoes also fit a little tight around the toe area.  Some players recommend to buy half a size up, but if you go this route be prepared to add some type of insole to tighten up the fit.  Overall the Adidas Barricade 6.0 are a good pair of shoes, I just wish they were a little lighter

The Nike Air Max Courtballistec 3.3

Nike has really beefed up their shoes lately.  This shoe is actually considerably heavier than even the Adidas counterpart.  After having weight issues with a lighter shoe, I didn’t appreciate the extra material on this model.  The durability is at least as good as the Adidas pair, but I never got to test them out fully.  The shoe is very narrow and uncomfortable around the ankle.  Previous models like the Courtballistec 2.3 had a soft and meshy upper, this shoe has a more hardened and stiffer material.  Unless you’re looking for a narrow shoe, be careful with this model.  Overall I think this shoe is way too heavy and doesn’t provide the comfort to justify all the extra weight.  Stiff material on the upper made these shoes painful for me and I wouldn’t buy them again.
